Read on for some Men’s Breakfast history:
It all started some time ago, before COVID, during Rev. Denise Hayden's tenure. We met once a month on a Saturday morning in the parish hall, pausing for a winter break from December to March. Our usual breakfast included scrambled eggs and peppers cooked in a bag, with Toni Skells faithfully preparing McDonald’s-style hash browns and sausages. The gatherings came to a halt during the COVID shutdown, but last year we resumed, taking a different approach.
Since we were already sharing our church facilities with the Waterloo-Kitchener Mennonite Brethren during our renovation construction, we decided to also share our men’s group time with the men of the WK Mennonite Brethren. They’ve been meeting every first Tuesday of the month for over 25 years at Dearborn Restaurant in Waterloo, under the name R.O.M.E.O., which stands for "Retired Old Men Eating Out," Waterloo Chapter. Over the past year, our joint gatherings have drawn between 6–12 Holy Saviour men and 6–8 from the WK Mennonite Brethren, strengthening community ties and fellowship.
